The Tropical Symphony

Located in the core area of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex in Hai Nham village, Nam Hoa Lu ward, Ninh Binh province – Thung Nham is a typical eco-tourism area in the North. On an area of over 300 hectares, Thung Nham gathers all the values: primeval forest landscape, unique cave system, the largest natural bird garden in the North, four-season flower island and tropical garden space.

Formerly a model of a comprehensive economic farm (1999 – 2003), Thung Nham has transformed strongly since 2003 when it officially developed eco-tourism under the investment and operation of Doanh Sinh Trade and Tourism Services Joint Stock Company. Since then, this place has been positioned as a destination that blends natural experiences, indigenous culture and high-quality resorts.

About 100 km from Hanoi, Thung Nham is easy to access but still retains its tranquility amidst mountains and rivers. Here, visitors can explore the wild space with dozens of rare bird species, activities such as boating, cave exploration, relaxing at the ecological swimming pool, along with a system of accommodation & cuisine typical of local agricultural products.

Thung Nham not only focuses on sustainable development, but also plays an active role in local livelihoods with more than 250 employees and many households participating in the ferry service. With a long-term orientation, Thung Nham is rising to become a leading ecological – cultural destination, contributing to shaping the appearance of Ninh Binh tourism on the international map.

1. History of Formation

The name "Thung Nham" originates from the local geographical name where the eco-tourism site is located, reflecting the cultural and natural identity of Ninh Binh in northern Vietnam. In Sino-Vietnamese, “Thung” refers to a valley — a lowland area surrounded by mountains — while “Nham” means steep, rugged cliffs or towering rocky mountains. Together, "Thung Nham" can be understood as “a valley enclosed by dramatic limestone cliffs”, symbolizing a harmonious blend between the majestic and the poetic elements of nature.

1999 – 2003: Formed under the name “Thung Nham Comprehensive Farm Economic Zone”, developing in the direction of combined agriculture and forestry
2003: Converted into an Eco-tourism Area invested and managed by Doanh Sinh Trade & Tourism Services Joint Stock Company
2010-2012: Opened and completed the main road leading to Thung Nham – an important foundation for tourism activities
2013: First ticket sales – officially operated tourism services
2015: Launched Hoang Hon Resort, Food Court and Stilt House Cluster – a milestone in the development of accommodation and community experience
2019: Opening of Binh Minh Resort – modern, minimalist accommodation space
2022: Putting into operation the largest outdoor swimming pool in Ninh Binh
2023: Opening of costume rental counter, enhancing the experience for visitors
2024: Completing Thien Dieu Villa – high-class twin villas in the middle of nature
2025: Opening of Thung Nham Eco Gifts counter – developing green souvenir products with local identity
